Will those poop-bag refills fit your dispenser?
Check the full roll, the holder and the pack count before buying dog-waste bag refills. Bag dimensions alone do not establish dispenser fit.
Find the size of the full roll
Start with the refill roll’s diameter and length. The measurements printed beside a picture of an open bag usually describe the bag itself. They do not tell you how much room the new roll needs inside your holder.
Earth Rated’s US help page shows why that distinction matters. Its compact refill bags and Grab & Go bags have similar lengths when open, but their rolls have very different dimensions. The table keeps the maker’s metric measurements and stated tolerances together.
| Measurement | Compact refill roll | Grab & Go single roll of 300 |
|---|---|---|
| Unfolded bag | 23 × 33 cm | 20 × 33 cm |
| Full-roll diameter | 31 mm, with a tolerance of ±2 mm | 70 mm, with a tolerance of ±2 mm |
| Full-roll length along its center | 60 mm, with a tolerance of ±1 mm | 210 mm, with a tolerance of ±1 mm |
Allow for the stated range
A tolerance is the amount a stated measurement may vary. For the compact roll above, 31 mm plus 2 mm gives an upper diameter of 33 mm. Its stated length can reach 61 mm. These are calculations from Earth Rated’s specifications, rather than measurements of a sample.
If your holder’s limit is close to the listed roll size, compare it with the upper end of that range. You also need room for the holder’s internal parts and for the roll to turn. Matching two outside measurements alone does not establish that the refill will dispense properly.
Check the parts inside the holder
Find the model name on the holder or in its original listing. Look for an explicit refill recommendation before relying on a phrase such as standard size. Earth Rated’s dispenser page recommends its own refill rolls. That recommendation does not establish whether a different brand’s roll will fit.
If you already have a full roll that works, record its dimensions as a reference. An empty cardboard core cannot show the diameter of a fresh roll. When comparing another refill, check these details:
- The usable internal length after allowing for the space taken up by the cap.
- The narrowest internal diameter, including any ribs or supports.
- Whether a post passes through the roll, and the opening that post needs.
- The route from the roll to the exit slot, following the instructions for your exact holder.
- Whether the maker names the replacement roll or publishes compatibility details.
Read the format as well as the bag count
A box labeled 300 bags can contain one large roll or several compact ones. Check the number of rolls and the number of bags on each roll. Earth Rated describes Grab & Go as a single bulk roll in a tissue-style dispensing box. Its compact refill format is intended to pair with its leash dispenser.
A package photograph can help you identify the format, but use the written model and size details to make the comparison. If a seller lists only the unfolded bag dimensions, the full-roll measurements remain unknown. Keep your holder’s model and measurements beside the refill listing while you compare.
Compare the price after checking fit
Divide the total amount you would pay by the number of bags. Use the same basis for each pack, including tax and delivery if you want them counted. If the label lists rolls rather than bags, multiply rolls by bags per roll first.
Here is a calculation with hypothetical packages and prices. Both examples assume 15 bags per roll. They are arithmetic examples, with no prediction of how long either pack will last.
| Hypothetical pack | Total bags | Total price | Price per bag |
|---|---|---|---|
| 12 rolls × 15 bags | 180 | $18.00 | $0.10 |
| 24 rolls × 15 bags | 360 | $28.80 | $0.08 |
Separate the holder from the refill cost
For an existing holder, compare refill-only packs first. A bundle with a new dispenser can make the total bag count harder to spot. Earth Rated’s dispenser listing includes 15 bags, so it is a different purchase from a refill-only pack.
If a bundle includes bags, count them when comparing the whole bundle. Keep its purchase price separate from the amount you expect to spend on later refills. A lower price per bag is useful only if the format suits the holder and the quantity suits the storage space you have.
Save these details before checkout
Keep the information for the exact refill and holder together. That makes the next reorder easier and gives you a way to spot a changed size or format.
- The holder’s brand and model, plus any named compatible refill.
- The full roll’s diameter, length and published tolerance.
- The core or spindle requirement, if the holder has one.
- The number of rolls, bags per roll and total bags.
- The total price on a consistent tax and delivery basis.
